The Vicksburg Missy Gators went to the wire to punch their ticket to the MHSAA Class 6A volleyball playoffs.

Vicksburg outlasted Callaway in five highly competitive games Wednesday, 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 26-28, 15-12), to secure the fourth and final postseason berth from Region 2-6A.

Makynzie Dunmore scored 10 points, and had three kills and three assists to lead the Missy Gators (7-8, 3-7 Region 2-6A). She also had six defensive digs.

Amari Johnson had six digs, and Kennedy Mullins and Jamia Grace scored six points each. Lili Kistler had seven points and six digs.

Vicksburg avenged a 3-2 loss to Callaway (11-11-1, 1-9) two weeks ago to reach the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. Its reward, though, is a very difficult first-round assignment.

Vicksburg will go on the road on Oct. 8 to play Lake Cormorant (35-5), the reigning Class 6A champion. Lake Cormorant knocked Vicksburg out of the playoffs last season, and also won the Class 5A championship in 2022.

In Wednesday’s junior varsity match, Vicksburg beat Callaway 2-0 (25-20, 25-11). Zipporah Drake, Kennedy Williams, Zaria Jones and Jamiya Stewart scored four points each, and Teagan Stewart scored five.
