Joint operation yields arrests for drugs, warrants

A joint operation carried out this week between a number of local and state agencies ended with seven total arrests and 10 citations within a four-hour period.

According to information from the Vicksburg Police Department (VPD), local officers were joined Thursday by deputies from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Department of Corrections and the Alcoholic Beverage Control to conduct the joint operation throughout Vicksburg and Warren County.

VPD officials said the activities centered on traffic enforcement, narcotics enforcement and the serving of arrest warrants.

Among those taken into custody were 34-year-old Kenneth Rashad Ross, 38-year-old Desmond King and 40-year-old Ojerel Hagan, all of Vicksburg. 

Ross was taken into custody following a traffic stop on Harrison Street and has been charged with possession of controlled substances after marijuana, cocaine and fentanyl were found in his vehicle. Ross appeared before Judge Angela Carpenter in Vicksburg Municipal Court Friday, where his bond was set at $25,000 and he was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.

King was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana following a traffic stop on Halls Ferry Road. King appeared in Vicksburg Municipal Court Friday, where Carpenter set his bond at $25,000. He was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.

Hagan was arrested on a warrant for forgery held by WCSO after his vehicle was stopped for a traffic offense on Main Street.
