JACKSON — Kevin Yu triumphed in the final round of the Sanderson Farms Championship on Sunday, securing his first PGA Tour victory with a spectacular performance at The Country Club of Jackson.

Yu made a 15-foot birdie on the 18th hole to finish the final round with a 5-under par 67. He then made birdie again on the 18th to beat Beau Hossler in a playoff.

With his winning putt, Yu secured a spot in the 2025 Masters and the PGA Championship for the first time. He also will start his season at Kapalua for The Sentry, a gathering of PGA Tour winners in 2024.

“It’s literally a dream come true,” Yu said. “I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was 5. I think this is the dream for all the golfers, to win on the PGA Tour. And then I did it today, and I’m really thankful for my parents right now. Without them, I don’t think I could’ve done this.”

Initially overshadowed in a final round between Hossler and Keith Mitchell, the 26-year-old from Taiwan tied for the lead with his birdie on the final hole of regulation.

In regulation, Hossler hit his drive on 18 behind a tree but was able to get up and down to save par. Mitchell had a 35-foot birdie putt to win it, and it barely slid past the left edge of the hole. He then missed the ensuing 4-foot putt for par, shot 70 and missed the playoff.

When they replayed the 18th for the playoff, Yu put his approach shot within six feet of the hole and made the putt for a birdie. Hossler shanked his drive a second time. Hossler was able to get up and down from a bunker to save par, but watched his chance at his first Tour victory slip away.

Hossler, a 29-year-old from California who turned pro in 2016, has never won in 200 career starts on the PGA Tour. He grabbed a share of the lead with a 20-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole and then lost it just as quickly when Yu rallied on 18.

“Even though I didn’t have my best stuff on the back nine I grinded really hard,” Hossler said. “Hit some really quality shots under the gun, and that’s all you can do. Obviously, Kevin played a beautiful hole in the playoff.”

The 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship marked the 12th year the Laurel-based company has been the title sponsor for Mississippi’s only PGA Tour event. Sanderson Farms initially announced it would end its affiliation after this year, then reversed course and signed on again for 2025.

The Sanderson Farms Championship primarily benefits Children’s of Mississippi, the state’s only children’s hospital, alongside more than 70 other Mississippi charities.

“What an amazing week it has been for everyone, including our fans, our title sponsor, Wayne-Sanderson Farms, our tournament sponsors, and especially Kevin,” said Steve Jent, executive director of the Sanderson Farms Championship. “I am confident we will be able to make a significant impact to our community. We look forward to seeing everyone back in 2025 and will announce our new dates in the upcoming weeks.”
