Over the River Run
Registration is now open for the 36th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and race walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge. The race is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, at 8 a.m.

The entry fees are $30 for the 5-mile race and $15 for the 1-mile fun run. After Sept. 15 15th, the entry fees increase to $35 and $20. The race day fee for the 5-mile race will be $40.

Entry forms and race information are available at southernculture.org/events/otrr.htm. Entry forms and fees can be dropped off at Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation business office or mailed to: SCHF, 1302 Adams Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180; or you can register online at RaceRoster.com. You can also call the SCHF at 601-631-2997 for more information.

Race packet pick-up will be Oct. 11th at the SCHF Auditorium at the corner of Crawford and Cherry Streets, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the morning of the race at the race site.

Sponsorships are also available, and volunteers are needed to help with the event. The Over the River Run is a fundraiser for the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation and helps with its building maintenance and numerous community programs.

Red Carpet Bowl Golf
The 8th Annual Red Carpet Bowl Invitational Golf Tournament, originally scheduled for Oct. 12 and 13, has been postponed because of repair work being done to the course at the Vicksburg Country Club. No make-up date has been announced.

WC Night of Champions
Warren Central will host the Viking Football Night of Champions on Friday, Oct. 25, during the home game against Neshoba Central. The event is a celebration of 60 years of Warren Central football, and all former players, managers and coaches are invited to attend. There is a $20 registration fee that will benefit the football program.

The event will include a tailgate and social hour at 5 p.m.; pregame recognition and a group photo at 6:40; and recognition of the 1970s Little Dixie Conference and 1988 and 1994 MHSAA Class 5A state championship teams at halftime.

WC Spooktacular Softball
Warren Central’s 2024 Spooktacular Softball Game is scheduled for Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m., at Lucy Young Field on the WC campus.

The annual fundraiser game features Warren Central’s softball and baseball teams playing a slow-pitch game while wearing Halloween costumes. Candy will be given out between innings and there will be a costume contest for the children in attendance.

The admission fee is $5 for adults, or $3 for students with ID. Children 12 and under who wear a costume are admitted free. All proceeds are given to charity.

Donnell/Mendrop Memorial Golf
The Warren-Claiborne County chapter of the Hinds Community College Alumni Association will host the Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.

The four-person scramble will have a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Lunch and registration starts at 11:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $85 per player and includes green fee, cart, two mulligans, lunch and refreshments. There are two divisions for seniors 65 and over, as well as younger players.

Two closest to the hole prizes will be awarded, and one for the longest drive.

Halloween Pickleball Tournament
The Society of Women Engineers will host its Halloween Pickleball Tournament fundraiser on Oct. 26 at 8 a.m. at Halls Ferry Park.

Players are encouraged to wear costumes, and prizes will be awarded to the best ones. The entry fee is $40 per person, or $50 on the day of the tournament. All proceeds will go to the Mississippi River Section of the Society of Women Engineers and will support the group’s community outreach programs.
