Two trolls ran around the bases, a cookie avoided being thrown out by the banana, and Napoleon Dynamite recorded a few putouts at first base, all as part of one of Warren Central’s beloved Halloween traditions.
The school’s baseball and softball teams joined together for the annual Spooktacular Softball Game Thursday night at Lucy Young Field. Players competed in a slow-pitch game while wearing Halloween costumes and gave out candy to the children in attendance between innings.
A costume contest was also held for both the kids and players.
Warren Central’s coaches dressed as a biker gang and rode onto the field on four-wheelers and riding lawnmowers. Later, the upheld law and order on the field as the game’s umpires.
In another tradition, all of the proceeds from the game’s admission fees and concession sales will go to a member of the community who is in need. This year’s recipient is Academy of Innovation principal Melissa Rouse, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier this year and recently underwent surgery to treat it.
