BRANNING: Faith, Family and Freedom
Published 11:51 am Wednesday, October 23, 2024
As a candidate for the Mississippi Supreme Court, I want to let you know about my background, experience, values and qualifications that I’ll bring to our state’s highest court.
As a wife and mother of three boys, my priorities are faith, family and freedom. As a State Senator over the past nine years, I’ve served in several leadership roles including Chairman of the Elections Committee. Now, as your Chairman of the Highways and Transportation Committee, I’ve worked hard to help build our state, to grow our economy, and to help create jobs and more opportunities for all Mississippians.
My conservative record in the State Senate is about getting things done for you—to lower taxes and reduce regulations on farmers, manufacturers and other businesses and all Mississippians. I’ve worked closely with our local, state and federal leaders to help our farmers, teachers and law enforcement officers, and to create a climate where our economy can grow.
I’ve been an attorney for more than 20 years with courtroom experience and an extensive law practice focused on helping people with business transactions, child advocacy and other areas of the law. I’m the only candidate in this race with legal and legislative experience which gives me a unique perspective to serve you on the Supreme Court for an 8-year term of office.
An 8-year term of office is the longest tenure of any elected official you vote for on the local, state or federal level. When you hire a judge for 8 years, it’s important to select the right person because of the long-term impact.
I’m a Constitutional conservative which is a legal philosophy of being a strict constructionist of the Constitution. Simply put, I’ll call balls and strikes instead of rewriting the rules of the game. I’ll always be fair and follow the law wherever it may lead. I’ll never legislate from the bench because judges should not be rewriting laws—they should interpret the law as it is written.
We are a country of laws, and those laws are only as good as the judges we elect to interpret those laws based on the strict interpretation of our Constitution. That’s the only way we can protect our individual rights, liberty and freedom.
We can elect conservatives to our executive and legislative branches, but if we elect liberal, activist judges to our judicial branch, they will undermine the will of the voters—and undo the conservative policies that are helping our state grow. That’s why this election is so important.
In this election, I want to make three commitments to you. I will always stand up for our Constitution and follow the rule of law. I will always fight to defend your individual rights, freedom and liberty. And over this 8-year term of office, I will always bring the energy, dedication, experience and commitment to represent our conservative values—for my family and yours. I would be honored to have your vote to serve you on the Mississippi Supreme Court.
