Much like he does with opposing quarterbacks on a regular basis, Ronnie Blossom sacked the competition in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.
The Warren Central defensive end received 2,856 of the 5,778 votes cast in an online poll of The Post’s readers to claim this week’s award over three other football players.
Vicksburg High’s Mincer Minor finished second, with 2,330 votes. St. Aloysius’ Thompson Fortenberry was third, with 473 votes, and Porter’s Chapel Academy’s Henry Slayton was fourth with 168.
Blossom, a senior, had five tackles, including four tackles for loss and one sack, in a 21-13 win over Vicksburg on Oct. 18. Blossom was part of a ferocious Warren Central defense that held the Gators to only 59 total yards.
For the season, Blossom leads the Vikings with 61 total tackles. He also has 18 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and one fumble recovery.
Warren Central (4-3, 2-0 MHSAA Region 2-6A) will play at home this Friday night at 7 against Neshoba Central (3-4, 2-0).
Congratulations to Ronnie and the other nominees, and thank you to our readers for voting.
