The annual National Night Out event drew a crowd to the Vicksburg Junior High School football stadium Tuesday where organizers with the Vicksburg Police Department and the Vicksburg Housing Authority had plenty planned to entertain those taking part in the free event.

Aimed at promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, National Night Out takes place each year in October.

“Thanks, citizens of Vicksburg. You all made National Night Out a success,” Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones said after the event. “So many people came out (for) laughter, food and games. Couldn’t have done it without you.”

This year’s event included bouncy houses for kids, food, live music and an inside look at police vehicles like SWAT team trucks and police cruisers.
