Warren Central soccer starts season with sweep of Morton

Warren Central’s soccer teams kicked off the 2024-25 season with a clean sweep on Tuesday.

The Lady Vikes beat Morton 8-0 in the first half of a varsity doubleheader at Key City Park, and then the boys’ team finished the sweep with a 6-0 victory.

Rachel Opperman and Jordan Polk scored two goals apiece for Warren Central in the girls’ game.

Brooke Steed, Allie Mason, Addi Mullen and Kennedy Smith also had one goal each, and the defense did not allow a shot on goal. Keepers Hayleigh Simmons and Emily Harvey were credited with the easy shutout.

Warren Central will play again on Tuesday, Nov. 5, against Germantown at Key City Park (formerly Sports Force Parks).

Jacob Porter scored four goals to lead Warren Central’s boys’ soccer team past Morton in its season opener.

Porter scored twice in the last four minutes of the first half to break a scoreless tie and open the floodgates for the Vikings. Luke Bond tacked on another goal four minutes into the second half, and Porter scored again in the 49th minute to make it 4-0.

Porter’s fourth goal came in the 55th minute, and Duke Esparza scored off an assist from his brother Charlie in the 58th to close out the scoring.

Duke Esparza, Ebrahim Shuaibi and Daniel Wescott had assists for the Vikings.

Keepers Jamarian Shelly and Ace Orosco combined for three saves and the shutout. Warren Central outshot Morton 17-6, and put 10 of its shots on goal.
