Inside Voices, a rock band based in Mississippi and Louisiana recently released a new music video for their single “Way Back to Myself,” which was filmed in downtown Vicksburg.

The lead singer, Tyler Jones, spoke to The Post about the new single.

“We had some very loose ideas going into it,” he said. “We wanted to be able to utilize downtown, because there’s a lot of cool stuff down there, in my opinion.”

The video was largely improvised, according to Jones, and some of the locations were chosen because of a relationship with Key City Brewery’s Zack Erickson.

Jones said Inside Voices and Key City have been essentially business partners in the past.

“We were like, ‘maybe we can do, you know, somebody trying to go through a bunch of different doors that are the wrong door,’ so to speak, and then come to somewhere else,” Jones said. “And we kind of started playing with that idea more, and then we spoke with Zack up at Brewery.”

The video features Erickson, owner and head brewer at Key City, and the band in different locations in the downtown area including the Key City brewery, the Strand Theatre, and the riverfront.

“So that was kind of the original idea of just a guy that wakes up with some keys, (and he’s) trying to figure out how to get back to wherever the heck he’s trying to go. And then everything just kind of came from there.”

The other members of the band are Alex Stokes, Taylor Bice, and Connor Matthews. Matthews and Jones have been playing music together since 2009. Inside Voices got its start in 2015.

Jones said that the band is planning on releasing another video with a new song in a couple of weeks, which serve as a “part two”  of sorts to the “Way Back to Myself” video.

The band’s next full-length album, “If it Matters,” is planned to be released in January.

Their connection to Vicksburg also includes their previous music video, “Memento,” which was filmed inside the Vicksburg National Military Park.

“We’re very glad that Vicksburg has been good to us in regard to us being able to get shots, as well as people just being supportive of us; Daniel Boone of 61 Coffee and the Strand being as awesome as it is, and same with Zack and everybody at Key City.”
