Amazing Grace Restaurant, located in downtown Vicksburg on Washington Street, opened on Aug. 4. The restaurant is co-owned by husband and wife team Anthony and Tabatha Collins.
“My wife is a ventureholic, I’ll call it, because she likes to take chances and try something new,” Anthony said. “So we just took that opportunity to try to make this work, which it has been working well.”
The establishment specializes in soul food, and every day has a different special dish.
When asked what his favorite dish the restaurant is serving is, Collins said, “Mine is the special for today, it’s the fish with the crawfish étouffée over rice.”
The Collins are also in the daycare business and own All My Children next door to the restaurant. When the former Blues Le Roux location opened up, they saw an opportunity.
Anthony said their food is something everyone can enjoy.
“Everybody. I don’t have anybody specific (in mind),” he said. “We just wanted to bring something else to the town.”
Anthony is not from Vicksburg but has been in the River City for about 27 years. He said part of the reason he and his wife started the restaurant was for their children.
“(We’re) very, very excited. And mainly we’re trying to do something to (build) that generational wealth. We have two kids, and what we are doing is getting everything prepared,” he said. “My daughter, she works in here now, and she works here and at the daycare, so to give her something to be able to fall back on, and then the grandkids.”
Anthony said that the hard work is paying off.
“We’re getting a lot of customers lately. It’s going better than planned, I can tell you that,” he said. “I didn’t target my budget on getting rich off of it or anything of that sort, but it’s doing well.”
The restaurant is located at 2001 Washington St., and is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
“We just want people to come by, check us out, give us an opportunity, and see what everything is about,” Anthony said.
