Boys basketball roundup: St. Al, Vicksburg cruise to early-season wins

Three double-figure scorers helped St. Aloysius’ boys basketball team double its win total.

Anthony McCloud finished with 21 points and seven rebounds, Carson Gleese added 16 points, and Carter Henderson had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as St. Al beat the Mississippi School for the Deaf 64-19 on Tuesday.

Carson Henderson also had a solid game, with six points and seven rebounds for the Flashes. Tre Lee had five steals, and he and Lanier Lambiotte scored three points each.

St. Al (2-1) has won two of its first three games. It will host Delta Streets Thursday, with a girls-boys varsity doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.

Vicksburg 59, South Pike 45
Sophomore Jaquez Jones filled up the scorebook in his first varsity start, pumping in 24 points to lead the Vicksburg Gators to a season-opening victory over South Pike.

Jones was 9-for-10 from the free throw line, and the Gators were 16-for-19 as a team. They led 30-13 at halftime and by 27 points at the end of the third quarter.

Javeion Perkins and Brycen Jones also scored 10 points apiece for Vicksburg, and Kris Washington scored nine.

Vicksburg will play at Lanier Thursday at 7:15 p.m. They also face Germantown Saturday at 7 p.m., in the final game of the Holmes County Classic tournament played at Holmes Community College.

Germantown 67, Warren Central 22
Warren Central dropped its boys basketball season opener Tuesday against Germantown. The Vikings will play at Greenville Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
