Vickburg’s Ward 1 Alderman Thomas “T.J.” Mayfield presented the latest round of AMAZE (Alderman Mayfield Award for Zeal and Excellence) awards during Friday’s regular meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA), and this month’s honors heavily featured the River City’s youth.

Included were Jase Jung, Martha Thomas, Keng-Kenneth Smith, Cameron Pollard, Laila Soto and Bentley Brown. The AMAZE awards began earlier in the year following the death of Mayfield’s father, longtime Ward 1 Alderman Michael Mayfield Sr., as a way to honor his legacy, while recognizing outstanding achievements from Vicksburg residents.

“We have a lot of people doing great things and some of our young people, we want to show them that we can acknowledge and praise them for doing great as well,” Mayfield said.
