Claiborne beat Marvell Academy 52-16 in another second-round game on Friday. Briarfield beat Claiborne 58-30 when the teams met in the regular season on Oct. 4.

Briarfield won three MAIS 8-man championships in five years from 2016-20, and played for another in 2021, but did not get past the semifinals the past two seasons.

Smith scored a rushing touchdown with 16 seconds left in the first quarter for Briarfield’s first points against Tensas (2-10), and then the Rebels found the end zone four times in the second.

Brock Johnson, Ryder Jones and Jack Woodall all scored rushing touchdowns, and Smith caught a TD pass that made it 34-0 with 1:30 to go in the half.

Johnson had another rushing touchdown early in the third quarter, and Martin returned two interceptions for touchdowns to finish the scoring.
