100 YEARS AGO: 1924

Michael Tierney died. • Percy Marmont was seen in “You Can’t Get Away With  It” at the Alamo Theater.

Rice and Company advertised its 64th anniversary sale. • Wilma Sowers returned from a visit with relatives in Winnsboro, Louisiana. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1944

Corp. Reginald Kahn, stationed at Fort Ord, California, was visiting Vicksburg. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1954

County Superintendent of Education J. Noel Nutt was attending a meeting of the Delta Council Educational Committee in Stoneville, Mississippi. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1964

Mrs. Gerald Braddock was elected president of the Delta Gamma Alumnae Association in Vicksburg. • Mrs. Melvin Cook ws named outstanding clubwoman of the Beechwood Home Demonstration Club. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1974

Mr. and Mrs. James Luther Christenberry, of Rolling Fork, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. • Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Hennington returned from a trip to the Ozarks.

40 YEARS AGO: 1984

It was determined that Vicksburg should have its own television station and a partner in the Vicksburg Broadcasting Group said it would take approximately 19 months to become a reality. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1994

Vicksburg fire and police employees who were part of the Civil Service system were preparing for tests that could lead to promotions. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2004

The Vicksburg Cruisers Car Club held a meeting at the Cracker Barrel. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2014

Samaritan’s Purse was delivering shoe boxes of goodies to children in third-world countries for Christmas.
