Soccer roundup: St. Al, Warren Central snag wins; Gators get a tie

While they wait on some of their football teammates to return, the rest of St. Aloysius’ futbol team took care of business.

Seven players scored a goal as the Flashes crushed Cathedral 7-0 in their boys soccer season opener on Thursday.

Dalton Windham had a goal and two assists, and also played the first half at keeper. Carson Tucker made two saves in the second half to complete the shutout.

Carter Smithhart, Corbin Burroughs and Eli Shiers each had one goal and one assist as St. Al jumped to a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Cole Butler, Jack Dickeron and Vaylor Smith had one goal apiece as well.

In the junior varsity game, Mason Bourne scored two goal and added an assist but Cathedral beat St. Al 5-3. Louis Amborn also scored a goal and Henry Bell had an assist.

St. Al and Cathedral will play again Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Natchez.

Vicksburg 0, McLaurin 0
Vicksburg High controlled most of the game, but couldn’t find the back of the net and played to a scoreless tie with McLaurin on Thursday.

Arthur Davis had six saves for the Gators, who will play Newton County and Wayne County in a pair of tournament games Saturday at Wayne County.

Warren Central 2, St. Andrew’s 1
Jacob Porter scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute to give Warren Central (1-0-1) a boys soccer win over St. Andrew’s on Thursday.

Porter scored off an assist from Duke Esparza, and then Jamarian Shelly made two saves in the last 10 minutes to preserve the victory.

Shelly finished with six saves. Luke Bond scored the Vikings’ first goal, midway through the first half.

Warren Central will play Purvis and Hattiesburg in a pair of tournament games Saturday at Laurel.

St. Andrew’s beat Warren Central 4-0 in the girls’ game on Thursday.

Amari Johnson scored three goals and Trinity McGloster added another to lead Vicksburg High’s girls soccer team to an easy win against McLaurin.
