An unoccupied home was “fully engulfed” by flames when Vicksburg Fire Department responded to the scene Friday morning, just before 5 a.m., according to Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps.

“At approximately 4:45 a.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department was dispatched to respond to a structure fire located at 1008 Speed Street,” Stamps said. “Upon their arrival, firefighters encountered a residence that was fully engulfed in flames, prompting an immediate and coordinated response. The fire crews executed their duties with both efficiency and effectiveness, ultimately extinguishing the blaze. It is noteworthy that there were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.”

Stamps said the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, but the resulting heat was intense enough to impact nearby structures.

“The fire burned intensely, generating significant heat that unfortunately affected the neighboring property,” he said. “Fortunately, it was unoccupied at the time, allowing for a focused response to control the situation and prevent broader damage. This incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures and community preparedness for emergencies.”

Stamps said the fire is currently under investigation to determine its cause.
