Warren Central soccer teams go 4-for-4 at Laurel Showcase

After back-to-back losses, Warren Central’s girls soccer team was working on the weekend to find some success — and it did.

The Lady Vikes got back in the win column with two victories at the Laurel Showcase on Saturday, beating Newton County 2-1 and Poplarville 5-1.

Addi Mullen and Kennedy Smith each scored a goal against Newton County, while keeper Emily Harvey made 10 saves.

In their second game, Jordan Polk racked up four goals to lead the Lady Vikes (3-2) to a rout of Poplarville. Evella Fairley also scored a goal, and Harvey made four saves.

Warren Central will be back in action Tuesday, against Terry at Key City Park (formerly Sports Force Parks). The girls-boys varsity doubleheader will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Warren Central’s boys soccer team remained unbeaten this season by winning both of its games in the Laurel Showcase.

Charlie Esparza scored two goals and Jacob Porter had one as the Vikings beat Purvis 3-0 in their first game.

Luke Bond had two assists and Eriam Diaz-Mejias had one. Defenders Ebrahim Shuaibi, Conner Leverette, Jackson Holden and Blake Hern helped keeper Jamarian Shelly record the first of his two shutouts Saturday.

In their second game, the Vikings (4-0-1) defeated Hattiesburg 6-0.

Porter scored two more goals, while Duke Esparza, Whit Loper, Shuaibi and Shelly — who got some playing time in the field — each netted one.
