The Warren Central Junior High School Vikings football team was recognized during Friday’s regular meeting of the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen for a perfect 7-0 season in 2024 en route to the Little Six football championship.
WCJH head coach Louis Green accepted a plaque on behalf of his team, members of which were present for the recognition at the Robert M. Walker Building.
“It was a long season. I can’t express how hard these young men worked,” Green said. “It took a lot. If you were at our games, you kind of witnessed it in person. They were very just resilient; hardworking. They never gave up. And it just goes to their testament. This is the future of Warren Central football. I’m very proud.”
Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said what the young team accomplished was truly worthy of praise and recognition.
“I just want to say how proud we are, because you just can’t go out on a field and just claim it,” Flaggs said. “You have to earn it, and I think that’s what you’ve done. I just want to say to all of you guys, we’re proud of you because of the fact that you represented not just Vicksburg, but the whole county.”
Green also gave praise to his coaching staff.
“They’re very hard working, so I just want to recognize them,” he said. “It was a total team effort, the coaches and the players.”
