Improvements to access for people with disabilities have been completed at the Warren County Courthouse in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The improvements consist of a new ramp that allows access for wheelchairs and those with impaired mobility.
The state legislature allocated $400,000 for the project, plus other county infrastructure needs. The total cost of the ramp was $177,295.
President of the Warren County Board of Supervisors Kelle Barfield said that the state legislature essentially did the county the favor of rounding up on the projected costs on the project. The phrasing of the allocation allows for the remainder of the $400,000 – approximately $222,705 – to be used for county infrastructure as seen fit by the board.
“It’s important for all of our residents and visitors to have as easy access to the courthouse as possible,” Barfield said. “Working with our state officials and our county engineer and the construction company, they were able to design a solution that facilitates better access for those whose mobility is impaired.”
