A 14-year-old is facing two felony charges after a shooting incident last week in the 300 block of Rancho Road.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said deputies responded to a shots-fired call just before 10:30 a.m. Nov. 20 and found a residence with signs of multiple gunshots having been fired.

“Deputies found the residence had at least one round that had been fired through the front door from outside, but then there were several more rounds that had been fired from within the home that penetrated interior walls,” Pace said. “The investigation led to the identification of a 14-year-old (male) suspect.”

Pace said investigators suspect the alleged shooter became involved in an argument with his girlfriend, who is also a minor, before firing a gun at her multiple times.

“He retrieved a gun, and part of our investigation is to determine where the gun actually originated, but he fired through the front door and then went into the house. She hid in a back room and he fired several more rounds into the wall.”

Pace said no one was injured in the incident, but the minor has formally been charged as an adult with two felonies, per Mississippi law.

“Miraculously, no one was injured, but he is charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and aggravated domestic with a firearm,” Pace said.

Pace said, by state statute, anyone 13 years of age and older who is charged with a violent felony involving a firearm is automatically under the jurisdiction of the circuit court as an adult.

As of press time Wednesday, the suspect remained in the Warren County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
