V105.5 Caroling Contest around corner

Published 10:25 am Friday, November 29, 2024

The V105.5 Caroling Contest has become a Vicksburg tradition. The first event was held in 2005, and competitors are still lining up to sing for their share of the $10,000 in cash that is distributed to division winners. This year’s competition will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center, 1600 Dr. Briggs Hopson Blvd., and the deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Dec. 3.

To enter, contestants must fill out an entry form and email it along with a music track — contestants must send in the track with their recording — to christmas@vicksburgv105.com. Those who plan to use live piano accompaniment should include the accompaniment with a recorded performance submission. The quality of the track will not be judged.

Preliminary judging will take place Dec. 6 at the V105.5 Studio, 1123 South St., and will be based on three things:

  • Overall quality of the performance — not the recording.
  • Musicality and musicianship.
  • Entertainment value of the performance.

During the preliminary judging, which is not open to the public, the top scores from each division will be notified and must be available to perform live Dec. 12 to receive a cash prize. Preliminary scores will not be combined with the Dec. 12 live competition where winners and runners-up will be determined for each division and all finalists will receive a portion of the $10,000.

Entry forms are available at River Hills Bank, McDonald’s, Southern Barbar and Style, Magnolia Jewelers, Eyeline Optical and People’s Drug Store. Tickets for the performance are $5 and free for ages 12 and younger.

Individual performers may not perform both as an individual and in a duet, but individual performers will be allowed to perform as a member of a group or choir.

Winning performances will be played on the V105.5 Christmas Playback Show on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
