1 in custody, additional suspects sought by VPD after shots fired on Commerce Street

The Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) is actively investigating an incident that occurred in the early morning hours Friday, Chief Penny Jones said Tuesday.

“At approximately 5:08 a.m., officers responded to a call in the 900 block of Commerce Street regarding a suspicious person,” Jones said. “Upon arrival, officers encountered an individual and a series of events unfolded leading to shots being fired in the area. No injuries were reported, and law enforcement quickly secured the scene.”

Jones said one person is currently in custody in connection with the incident, while others are still wanted; however, she added details are not yet being released due to the involvement of minors.

“Following a thorough investigation, one individual is currently in custody, and warrants are pending for additional suspects involved. The investigation has revealed that juveniles are involved. We appreciate the community’s cooperation and patience as we continue to work on this case.”
