Trash prices to increase for county residents

Warren County residents will see a price increase on their waste disposal bills next year.
At a voting session Monday, the Warren County Board of Supervisors received an information letter from Waste Management providing notice to county residents of an increase in price for garbage services.
The price change is based on an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation based on the prices of consumer goods. The letter states that Waste Management has the right to increase rates based on the CPI under its contract with the county.
The current contract Warren County has with Waste Management was signed in 2019.
County residents currently pay $24.79 per month, or $74.37 per quarter. The January hike of $0.68 per month, or 2.87%, will result in a monthly rate of $25.47. The total increase per customer will be $2.04 per quarter, for a total quarterly fee of $76.41.
The new price will be reflected in billing statements for the first quarter of 2025.
This comes after recent price increases and policy changes for trash pickup for Vicksburg residents. The price increase for county residents will not affect people who live in the city limits of Vicksburg.
