Mississippi Valley State announced that football head coach Kendrick Wade will not return next season.

Wade, a Valley alum, led the Delta Devils for two seasons and compiled a 2-21 record. The team’s only victory this year was a 24-21 upset of Florida A&M on Nov. 16.

Valley has not finished with a winning record since going 6-5 in 2006. It has won more than three games in a season only twice since then.

Valley ranked 114th out of 123 Football Championship Subdivision teams in total offense this season, with 284.8 yards per game. It was 113th in total defense, allowing 452.8 yards per game.

Kyle Williams, who was the Delta Devils’ defensive coordinator this season, was named interim head coach.

“We are grateful to Coach Wade for his service to the program and commitment to our student-athletes,” MVSU interim athletic director George Ivory said in a statement. “His passion for football and leadership will leave a lasting impact, and we wish him success.”
