Another shooting at downtown gas station under investigation

In what has become a familiar sight for folks in downtown Vicksburg, police officers converged on the Fastway service station at the corner of Cherry and Clay streets Tuesday morning after gunfire rang out just after 10:30 a.m.

Witnesses on the scene said they did not see the actual shooter and assumed he or she was inside the station at the time of the incident. Multiple witnesses said at least 10 shots were fired and a Black male was taken from the scene by ambulance.

The shooting marks the second incident of gunfire at the location in four days and the second shooting in as many months to take place in broad daylight.

Saturday night following the Christmas Parade of Lights in downtown, Vicksburg police responded to an incident at the gas station. No arrests have been made; however the incident was logged as a “shooting into an occupied vehicle” by the Vicksburg Police Department.

In November, shots were also fired at the location – also during the morning – after Vicksburg police said an argument between two men led to an exchange of gunfire.

Police later arrested 23-year-old Anthony Jackson of Vicksburg for aggravated assault and are actively searching for a second suspect, 21-year-old Derrius Darden. No one was injured in the November incident.

This story is developing and will be updated as information is uncovered.
