A Kiwanis Club was organized in Vicksburg with W.W. Broome as president.

John Hermann was reelected president of the Illinois Centra Service Club. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1954

Dr. A.P. Messina was elected president of the Issaquena-Sharkey-Warren Medical Society. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1964

Jimmy Duncan was installed as exalted ruler of Fidelity Lodge No. 507 Elks. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1974

Vicksburg experienced a partial eclipse for more than two hours. • Sgt. Leroy White graduated from the Tactical Air Command NCO Leadership School at Hurlburt Field, Florida. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1984

Abe Jr. and Barbara Fowler hosted 20 children from Gaddis Cottage orphanage in Jackson. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1994

A study confirmed the apartment market in Vicksburg was tight, with virtually every unit available already rented. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2004

A Vicksburg National Military Park tour road was sloughed during heavy rain, meaning some park traffic had to be detoured through the city. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2014

Infinity Holdings LLC of Vicksburg was suing the city for allegedly demolishing a building without properly notifying the owner.
