Jadarius Henderson led Vicksburg High’s boys basketball team to two easy wins last week, then scratched out a tough one in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.
Henderson, a junior, received 440 of the 1,059 votes cast in an online poll of The Post’s readers to win this week’s award by just 17 votes over Porter’s Chapel Academy’s Conley Johnston.
Johnston, a football and soccer player at PCA, received 423 votes. St. Aloysius football player Thompson Fortenberry was third, with 132 votes, and Warren Central basketball player Camara Evans was fourth with 92.
Henderson averaged 11.7 points in three games last week. He had 11 points in a 73-33 win over South Delta on Dec. 6, and 16 in a 61-52 victory vs. Port Gibson on Dec. 7. He also scored eight in a loss to Yazoo City on Dec. 3.
Henderson continued his hot streak this week by scoring a game-high 16 points in a 71-33 victory over McComb on Tuesday.
