Funeral services for Carrie Marie Walton Cruthirds are to be held Saturday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. in the Greater Grove Street M.B. Church with Elder Douglas Anderson Sr. officiating. Interment shall follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the chapel.

Carrie Marie Walton Cruthirds passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. She was 71. Mrs. Cruthirds was a retired schoolteacher and member of Bethlehem Church of God in Christ in Port Gibson, Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eva Walton Sr., and her brothers, Robert “Wendell” Walton, Albert Walton Jr., Samuel “Mule” Walton and Johnnie Walton.

She is survived by her husband, James Cruthirds; her three daughters, Dr. Beverly (Brandon) Cruthirds Callaway of San Diego, and Alicia Cruthirds and Jamie (Robert) Cruthirds Wells, both of Vicksburg; her brothers, James B. (Mary) Walton and Sterling Walton, both of Albion, Michigan; her sisters, Patrice Wiggins and Helen (Shannon) Motley, both of Albion, and Mary Ann Murphy and Bertha (Washington) Walton Cruthirds, both of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others.
