The postseason awards keep on coming for some of Warren County’s best high school football players.
Porter’s Chapel Academy’s Jase Jung, Conley Johnston and Hunter Simms, and St. Aloysius’ Beau Brogdon and Clark Hobson were named to the All-MAIS team in their respective classifications.
Jung, a running back, broke every single-game, season and career rushing record in Warren County during his stellar senior campaign. He rushed for 3,712 yards and 48 touchdowns on 325 carries, and finished his high school career with 6,422 yards and 87 TDs.
Jung also set the county’s single-game records with 532 yards and seven touchdowns against Delta Academy on Aug. 23.
In addition to his offensive stats, Jung played defensive back and finished with 70 tackles and six interceptions.
Simms and Johnston both served as blockers for Jung on the offensive line, and were defensive standouts in their own right.
Simms led PCA with 81 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Johnston was right behind with 80 tackles, seven sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
Simms played several positions on defense and offense and was selected to the All-MAIS team as a defensive back. Johnston was an offensive and defensive lineman, and made the All-MAIS team on the offensive line.
Jung, Simms and Johnston all played in the MAIS Class 1A/2A All-Star Game. Jung caught two touchdown passes for the Blue team in its 46-14 victory, and Johnston was the defensive MVP for the White after racking up 14 total tackles, two sacks and two tackles for loss.
St. Al’s Brogdon and Hobson were named to the Class 4A All-MAIS team.
Brogdon, a junior, averaged 37.0 yards per punt and was selected to the All-MAIS team as a punter.
The senior Hobson played on the offensive and defensive line and made the All-MAIS list at the latter. He had 40 tackles and played in the Class 3A/4A All-Star Game.
On the Class 1A team, Tallulah Academy’s J.T. McDaniel was selected as a defensive back and Briarfield Academy had six players selected.
Making the list for Briarfield were offensive lineman Calvin Barnes; wide receiver Hayden Smith; all-purpose player Trecin Baker; defensive lineman Luis Perez; linebacker Jack Woodall; and defensive back Jack Martin.
Smith caught 15 touchdown passes this season, to go along with five interceptions on defense and one punt return touchdown. Martin had 10 interceptions — two of which he returned for touchdowns — and four fumble recoveries.
Briarfield coach Beau Travis was the Class 1A Coach of the Year after leading the Rebels to their fourth state championship in eight seasons.
