Within hours of a shooting at the Fastway gas Tuesday morning, Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) had identified a suspect. Friday, 20-year-old Rashad Williams was taken into custody for the incident, which injured one man who was shot multiple times.

Witnesses on the scene reported hearing as many as 10 shots come from inside the gas station at the corner of Clay and Cherry streets just after 10:30 a.m.

Chief of Police Penny Jones said as many as nine bullets may have been fired. The victim, whose name has not been released, is in stable condition, she said. He did not retaliate during Tuesday’s incident.

Jones said Williams and the victim knew one another and had a history of disputes, including at least one that drew the attention of VPD, though Jones said the two men did not cooperate with officers at that time.

Williams has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
