Inmate charged with murder in Madison Parish after deadly prison stabbing

One person is dead and another facing a murder charge in Tallulah after one inmate allegedly stabbed another Monday.
According to officials with the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office (MPSO), deputies responded to Security Management Correctional in Tallulah for a reported stabbing Monday morning.
“Upon deputies’ arrival, they encountered one inmate with a severe laceration,” MPSO officials said. “The injured inmate was transported to the Madison Parish (Hospital) emergency room by ambulance. Upon arrival, the inmate was pronounced deceased.”
MPSO said the identity of the deceased is not yet being released; however, the suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Austin Dean, a Black male inmate.
MPSO said Madison Parish Sheriff’s CID (Criminal Investigations Division) investigated the case as a homicide, and Dean has been charged with second-degree murder.
Security Management in Tallulah is responsible for the safety and well-being of both the inmates under its care and those who work within the facilities.
