The City of Vicksburg during its regular meeting Monday declared three vehicles as surplus items before donating them to River City Rescue Mission.

The city okayed the designation of surplus, as well as the donation of, a 2013 Chevrolet 1500 4×4, a 2005 GMC 3500 and a 2014 Ford E-350 to the mission, which services people in need in Vicksburg and houses destitute men. The mission also operates a thrift store, the proceeds from which go to further its cause.

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said the donation is the least the city can do for an organization that gives back to the community on a daily basis.

“I had been down at the  mission and they told me about needing them, and they made their request by letter,” Flaggs said. “It was our honor to donate those vehicles, especially at a time like Christmas. I just hope they can get the best use out of them.”
