The Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) on Monday arrested two suspects who fled police after a domestic dispute Sunday and allegedly fired seven to eight gunshots while on federal property.

“The Vicksburg Police Department responded to a disturbance call involving a mother and her son,” Vicksburg Chief of Police Penny Jones said Sunday. “Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that two Black male juveniles had assaulted their stepfather. The juveniles immediately fled the scene on foot, prompting officers to pursue them into a nearby wooded area.

“During the pursuit, another call was received by Warren County 911 reporting (seven to eight) shots fired. In response, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) security team was immediately notified, as it is believed that the juveniles may have fled onto federal property.”

Jones said both suspects were apprehended Monday, adding only one of the two were minors.

“Today, the Vicksburg Police Department arrested two individuals, 19-year-old Michael Ware and his juvenile brother, on misdemeanor charges stemming from incidents that occurred Sunday, December 29, 2024,” Jones said. “Michael Ware, the adult, faces charges for domestic violence and discharging a firearm in the city limits. He will appear in municipal court later this week.

“The juvenile, whose identity is protected under Mississippi law, was arrested on similar charges. In accordance with state statutes, the juvenile was transported to the Warren County Youth Detention Center. As per legal requirements, juvenile records are sealed and cannot be released to the public.”
Jones said, as of now, no federal charges have been brought against either suspect.
“At this time, there are no pending federal charges associated with this incident. We urge the public to refrain from speculation and respect the confidentiality of juvenile proceedings. The Vicksburg Police Department is committed to maintaining public safety and will continue to investigate all criminal matters thoroughly.”
This is a developing story. More information will be released following initial court appearances.
