A fresh start: A City United program offered prayers for 2025

The A City United program held New Year’s Day at Washington Street Park did just that for Vicksburg, as members of church congregations, city government and other organizations came together to kick off 2025 with praise and worship music and prayer for different parts of life in the River City.

Ward 1 Alderman Thomas “T.J.” Mayfield, who was heavily involved in promoting the event, said the diversity of people with a shared spirit of hope for Vicksburg was a great way to kick off the new year.

“It was a wonderful sight last night to see so many people come together from all walks of life in the spirit of unity,” Mayfield said Thursday. “This event was open to all races and religious affiliations and it gave us a sense of hope for a better Vicksburg to start 2025.”

In addition to live praise and worship music, the crowd listened as ministers and other religious officials from a host of Vicksburg churches prayed publicly for many areas of daily life, including local education, government and philanthropic organizations.
