Qualifying period for municipal election opened Thursday

The qualifying period for Vicksburg’s 2025 municipal election began Thursday and will last through Jan. 31.

Offices up for election in the June 3 general election include mayor of Vicksburg, as well as seats for both Ward 1 and Ward 2 aldermen.

As of press time Thursday, neither incumbents Mayor George Flaggs Jr., Ward 2 Alderman Alex Monsour, Ward 1 Alderman Thomas “T.J.” Mayfield nor anyone challenging for the offices had qualified.

Flaggs is currently in his third term as mayor, while Monsour is completing his second term in office. Mayfield was elected in a runoff to a special election in 2024, when he defeated Daryl Hollingsworth to replace his father, the late Michael Mayfield Sr., on the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

Those wishing to qualify for city office may do so in person at the Vicksburg City Clerk’s office, located at 1401 Walnut St. Information for those eligible to qualify is available at www.sos.ms.gov
