NATCHEZ — The three persons of interest who were taken into custody Wednesday evening in Warren County are no longer persons of interest but suspects in an ongoing murder investigation from the deadly New Year’s Eve shooting in Adams County, Sheriff Travis Patten said.
They are Aereia Hearron, 28, who is charged with accessory after the fact of murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon; Darryl Hurts Jr., 26, charged with accessory after the fact of murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and an MDOC probation violation; and Jeremiyah Clark, 23, with two Natchez Police Department warrants for murder and one for attempted murder.
In November, Clark was released from jail as charges against him for the murder of Scottie Rodgers on Oct. 2, 2019, were dropped.
District Attorney Tim Cotton said at the time that during his review of the Rodgers case “it was evident that there are people involved who have not been charged, people who had more involvement than some who were charged.” Clark was 18 when initially arrested and charged in the Rodgers case.
Hearron, Hurts Jr. and Clark have not been formally charged as it relates to the shooting that killed Keyuan King on Dec. 31 and injured multiple other people in the area of Finger Lane, located off of Lower Woodville Road, Patten said.
However, their latest charges relate to another fatal shooting that occurred around midnight on Dec. 11 in the area of Lewis Drive and Hope Lane next to Susie B. West Elementary School.
That shooting killed 39-year-old Keitra McDonald and 43-year-old Londell Williams and injured a third person whose name was not released.
On Wednesday, with the assistance of the Vicksburg Police Department, Vidalia Police Department, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi and Louisiana Department of Corrections, Warren County Sheriff’s Office and ACSO, the three individuals were taken into custody at the Rodeway Inn in Vicksburg.
Patten thanked all of the agencies for the hours they have put into this case and for allowing ACSO to use Vicksburg facilities to hold and interview these individuals, all of which helped lead to their apprehension during the New Year’s Day holiday.
“It just shows how well things work when everyone works together, and every agency I named did their part even on a holiday. We’re extremely grateful for the support that everyone put into this case,” Patten said.
They were all initially being detained related to the county shooting on New Year’s Eve, which Patten said was “the largest shooting that possibly the county has ever seen,” killing King and injuring four or more other people. Patten said they would be turned over to the Natchez Police Department for the shooting on Dec. 11.
In another city shooting that occurred on New Year’s Day on Dumas Drive claimed the life of 21 year old Jalen Griffin. Another individual was injured and taken to the hospital, NPD Chief Cal Green said, adding it is believed that the two were shooting at each other.
When asked if these shootings had any connection, Patten deferred to NPD. Chief Green has not responded to calls today for comment on the Dumas Drive shooting.
“At this time, the investigation of the Finger Lane shooting is still ongoing, and we fully expect more charges to be added in regard to that case,” Patten said. “These people are no longer persons of interest but suspects in our case. We made sure that we got these individuals off the streets and into custody so that these families can have rest during this troubling time, but this case is far from over.”
