The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has placed Warren County in an enhanced risk for severe weather between 1 and 6 p.m. Sunday.
“Severe thunderstorms will be likely this afternoon into the evening as a low pressure system moves across the region,” NWS said. “The primary hazards with these storms will include damaging wind gusts as high as 60 to 70 mph, tornadoes possible (strong tornado can’t be ruled out), and quarter size hail. The primary impacts from storms for areas near and west of the Mississippi River will be approximately between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. for central Mississippi in the Interstate 55 corridor, and between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. for eastern and southeastern Mississippi in the Interstate 59 to Highway 45 corridors.”
Warren County Emergency Management Agency Director John Elfer said wind will be the primary threat Sunday and frigid weather will follow the line of storms, with temperatures expected to drop into the 20s overnight.
Elfer said anyone who is aware of an elderly person, or other person or persons with an elevated risk factor, who may need assistance during the inclement weather should contact Warren County 911.
