We’re looking forward to covering Vicksburg’s bicentennial

Vicksburg is a town steeped in history, and in 2025 residents and visitors alike will get to celebrate the beginning of it all as the River City parties its way through its bicentennial year. And The Vicksburg Post is looking forward to being there every step of the way.

It all gets started this month, when Vicksburg celebrates its actual birthday on Jan. 29, the date of its official incorporation two centuries ago. But that’s not all that is going on in the first month of the bicentennial year. Also beginning in late January, The Post will feature the first of 200 bios of men and women who have been integral parts of the city’s past. These names and faces were submitted from all over and graciously compiled by the Bicentennial Committee, so we’re looking forward to learning as much as our readers as we prepare and publish them throughout the year.

And the fun lasts all year long, with celebrations taking place April 26, with a Music and Culture Festival; July 4-6, with an Independence Weekend bash; Oct. 4 with a Family Fair; and Dec. 31 with a New Year’s Eve celebration.

And trust us when we say there will be plenty of bicentennial-themed celebrations along the way in the form of events hosted by organizations from all corners of town. Some will be new this year; others will be regular annual events tweaked to celebrate the milestone.

So, get ready for a yearlong birthday party in the River City. We can’t wait!
