A fire that quickly engulfed the Scottish Inn building on Clay Street Thursday morning has been brought under control and has not yet yielded any injuries, Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said just before 10 a.m.

“Firefighters have bravely battled and extinguished the blaze at the Scottish Inn, a vital step in ensuring the safety of the surrounding area,” Stamps said. “Following the successful suppression of the flames, crews conducted a thorough search of the interior of the building to assess any potential damage and ensure no one was trapped inside. Throughout the day, firefighting personnel will remain on-site, diligently monitoring for flare-ups and initiating an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, ensuring the safety of both the structure and the community.”

Stamps said the fire began at approximately 7:25 a.m. and quickly overtook the hotel building. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said the hotel has been out of business for several months.

As of 10 a.m., fire crews and other emergency personnel continued to block off the portion of Clay Street from Interstate 20 to just past the Scottish Inn location; however, East Clay Street remained accessible from South Frontage Road.

This is a developing story. More information will be released as it becomes available.
