Ridgeland sweeps Missy Gators, Gators

The Vicksburg Missy Gators wear green, but Ridgeland left them feeling blue.
Lilyana Greenfield and Eva Young scored 15 points each, and Ridgeland led wire to wire as it beat Vicksburg 65-41 in a girls’ basketball game Thursday.
Ridgeland (9-9, 3-2 MHSAA Region 2-6A) opened a nine-point lead by the end of the first quarter and steadily increased it as the game progressed.
Zion Harvey was Vicksburg’s only player in double figures. with 11 points. Cyinia Johnson had eight points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Raylyn Parson also scored eight points, while Carjessa Albert finished with four points and seven rebounds.
Young made three 3-pointers and had six steals along with her 15 points for Ridgeland. Jordan Austin dished out seven assists and had seven steals, and Jaelyn Luckett had 10 rebounds.
Vicksburg (11-8, 2-2) followed up a big win over defending Class 6A champion Neshoba Central with its fifth loss in seven games. This was only its third loss this season by more than eight points.
The Missy Gators will have a chance to get right on Tuesday, when they host a struggling Warren Central (2-11, 0-3) team in another Region 2-6A match-up. The game will begin at 6 p.m.
Boys
Ridgeland 71, Vicksburg 55
Phil Nelson finished with 27 points and six rebounds as Ridgeland (18-3, 4-1 Region 2-6A) pulled away in the second half to beat Vicksburg (8-11, 0-4) in the boys’ half of Thursday’s varsity basketball doubleheader.
Khameron Snow added 19 points and nine assists for the Titans and Marquis Williams scored 15 points.
Ridgeland led 34-32 at halftime, then took control in the third quarter and eased home to the win.
Vicksburg lost its fifth game in a row, with four of those coming against region opponents. It’ll host archrival Warren Central Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
