Spring Hill M. B. Church will host a gospel concert dubbed Evening of Praise Saturday at 5 p.m.
The concert will feature special guest Pastor Teddy Cross. Cross is the pastor of Mt. Nebo M. B. Church in Raleigh, Mississippi. Cross is also a musician and former member of the Grammy-nominated group, Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes.
The Spring Hill Male Chorus will host the evening. J. B. Edwards, a member of the chorus, said the evening will be filled with exciting and spiritual music.
The Spring Hill Male Chorus was formed almost 20 years ago, he said.
“We love to sing and love music,” Edwards said.
He added that three members of the chorus are also members of Spring Hill M. B. Church.
“Johnny Moran, Garland Carey and myself (attend church at Spring Hill M. B. Church). Marquis Goodwin is the musician and vocalist for the group. We have another member, Jimmy Hill, who is out sick.”
The Spring Hill Male Chorus also travels and performs at churches in Mississippi and Louisiana, Edwards said.
Another performer who will be featured at the concert is guitarist Maurice Morgan. Morgan, who is also a former musician with the Keynotes, will make an appearance. Morgan previously performed with other quartet groups, including the Canton Spirituals and the Pilgrim Jubilees. His current album, “Rightful Heir,” is on sale at many music outlets.
Jerrett Hampton, a member of the Grammy-nominated Mississippi Mass Choir, will be performing as a solo artist.
For the first time, two female quartet groups will be featured. The James Family of Utica and Faith of Brandon will also perform.
The Sons of Abraham, a male singing group from Jackson, will also perform.
Edwards said the concert, presented yearly, promises to lift souls and spirits with great gospel selections. Admission is free and the public is invited.
Spring Hill M. B. Church is located at 815 Mission 66.
