McCloud scores 1,000th point as Flashes beat Benton Academy

Anthony McCloud reached some rare air Monday night.
The St. Aloysius senior scored 29 points to reach 1,000 for his career, while leading the Flashes to a 68-21 boys basketball victory over Benton Academy.
McCloud joined Chase Smith as only the second St. Aloysius player since at least 2000 to score 1,000 points in his high school career.
In 17 games this season, McCloud is averaging 20.8 points and 8.0 rebounds. He has six double-doubles.
Carter Henderson added 10 points and Dru Gleese had eight for the Flashes (11-6), who won their second game in a row heading into their first two MAIS District 4-5A games this week. They’ll play Tuesday at Adams County Christian School and Friday at home against Copiah Academy.
Tre Lee added five points and Lanier Lambiotte scored four.
Gleese also had 11 points and four steals in Monday’s junior varsity game as the Flashes beat Benton 30-17. Grant Gattle added seven points and five rebounds.
Girls
Benton Academy 34, St. Aloysius 30
Megan Theriot scored eight points and Olivia Larsen had seven, but St. Aloysius (7-9) lost to Benton Academy in the girls’ half of Monday’s varsity doubleheader.
Farrell Roberson finished with four points, six rebounds an five steals for the Lady Flashes. Mallory Hobson grabbed six rebounds, and Taryn Lusby had five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
