A.J. Spengler was named president of the Vicksburg Engineers Club. • Mrs. Marshall Bush was  appointed chairman of the Little Theater Membership Committee. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Lucas Logue and Lummie Kizziah joined the police department. • Staff Sgt. John Crevitt Jr. was a prisoner of the Germans. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

Mrs. Robert Marye of Augusta, Georgia was in Vicksburg visiting relatives. • Thad Lee Cunningham was installed as worthy adviser of  the local Order of Rainbow Girls No. 1. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Al Banton, historian of the Vicksburg National Military Park, was the guest speaker at the Vicksburg Civitan Club’s meeting. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Ronnie B. Hunter was promoted to airman first class at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Ted Henry McCaskill celebrated his fourth birthday. • Johnny “Son” Bailey Sr. died. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Jack Hollingsworth was to be in concert at a luncheon sponsored by the Vicksburg Christian Women’s Club. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

Warren Central Junior High coach Martha Pharr coached the final regular-season game of her 43-year career. • Vicksburg Bridge Commission members heard plans to convert the U.S. 80 Bridge into a park. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

Miss Mississippi 2014 Jasmine Murray helped kick off health programs at Dana Road Elementary. • Vicksburg first responders underwent search-and-rescue training at Vicksburg National Military Park.
