A video depicting a sex act performed in public Wednesday at a bar in downtown Vicksburg has gone viral since being filmed Wednesday night at the Daiquiri Hub on Washington Street, and Chief of Police Penny Jones said Friday police have identified the couple involved.

“They are not from Vicksburg. They are not even from Mississippi,” Jones said. “We believe we have identified them and we will be issuing warrants.”

The video depicting the sexual act taking place in the middle of the bar’s main area of traffic is spliced together and Jones said it makes it difficult for officers to see faces and gauge the amount of time that passes. Jones said Vicksburg police also believe they have identified the person responsible for filming the video and have been in talks with the bar’s owners.

“(The owner) and I have worked together,” Jones said. “I actually have the names of the two suspects and the person who actually videotaped it.”

Jones said, because the crime is a misdemeanor, the couple cannot be forcible brought back to Vicksburg, even after warrants are issued; however, the warrants will remain in force should either individual return in the future.

“There will be warrants for them but, we can’t extradite them, because it’s a misdemeanor,” Jones said. “But, we knew they weren’t from here. They were just too comfortable doing what they did and knowing they could just leave town.”

Jones said the only other path to an arrest would have been for the bar’s employees to call police during the act.

“I’m sad that they did not call us when it was happening so we could make the arrest, but we understand everyone was in shock,” she said, adding the suspects’ names will be released once warrants are officially issued.

“Once we gather more information so that we can secure warrants for them, it will be made public.”
