St. Francis Xavier wins MAIS peewee basketball championship

Some of Vicksburg’s smallest basketball players are on top of the world.

St. Francis Xavier Elementary won two games Saturday to claim the MAIS Peewee Tournament B-team girls championship.

St. Francis, which is comprised of players in grades 4-6 at Vicksburg Catholic School, beat River Oaks 9-7 in the semifinals and Central School 11-7 in the championship game of the tournament played at Prairie View Academy in Bastrop, La.

Team members are Mary Thompson Ratliff, Liza Newman, Eva Evans, Ariana Flores, Lyla McMilan, Bryleigh Landers and Emma Walker. The team is coached by Paul Moore.
