Defensively, the Missy Gators made life easy for keeper Ava Pritchard. She only needed to make four saves to record the shutout.

“A huge shoutout to Harmony Harris, Dallas West, Alysha Murrell and Lili Kistler for their incredible teamwork in shutting down North Pike’s very fast striker,” Vicksburg coach Maurice Gilliam said. “Our goal was to keep the ball away from her as much as possible, and they executed it perfectly.”

Vicksburg will go on the road Monday to play Columbus, in a game that was rescheduled from last week because of weather. Vicksburg has already qualified for the MHSAA Class 6A playoffs, but has a chance to earn the No. 3 seed from Region 2-6A with a win and a Ridgeland loss to Neshoba Central on Tuesday.

Vicksburg scored its first goal in six weeks and played one of its best games of the season, but couldn’t slip past North Pike in Friday’s boys’ game.

Cameron Nailor scored the Gators’ goal — the team’s first in four games since Dec. 13 — on a penalty kick.
Keepers Xavier Williams and Johnathan Qualls had 11 and six saves, respectively.
