PCA swept by Central Holmes in regular-season finale

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s basketball regular season ended on a downer.

Schaffer Bell had a double-double, but Central Holmes pulled away in the second half to beat PCA 54-35 in the boys’ half of Monday’s varsity doubleheader.

Hays Hester scored 15 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to lead Central Holmes, which outscored the Eagles 34-22 over the last two quarters.

Bell finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots for PCA. Morris Bailey Jr. added seven points and eight rebounds, and senior Tyler Hatler also scored seven points in his final home game.

PCA will play in the MAIS Class 3A South State tournament next week at Sylva-Bay Academy. Its first-round opponent has not yet been determined.

Girls
Central Holmes 57, Porter’s Chapel 23
Ally Rae McBride made four 3-pointers in the first quarter to get Central Holmes off to a hot start, and it went on to earn an easy win over Porter’s Chapel Academy in Monday’s girls’ game.

McBride finished with 25 points, with 21 of those coming on seven 3-pointers. As a team, Central Holmes made nine shots from distance.

Marley Bufkin led Porter’s Chapel (5-8) with 15 points. Sophie Masterson and Michaela Chamblis had four each, and Masterson also grabbed six rebounds.
