It’s been a strange January for Vicksburg High’s girls’ soccer team, filled with starts, stops and rescheduled games, but it’s ending with a winning streak.

Trinity McGloster scored three goals and Amari Johnson had two to lead the Missy Gators to a 7-0 rout of Forest Hill in the regular-season finale on Thursday.

Kennedy Mullins also scored for Vicksburg (13-6), and Leah O’Bryant clinched the mercy-rule victory with a goal just before the final whistle.

“The girls had a slow start, but once they found their rhythm they were unstoppable,” Vicksburg coach Maurice Gilliam said.

Vicksburg won its fourth game in a row to cap a month in which it had to reschedule two region games, cancel three non-region games, and added Thursday’s contest on the fly as a playoff tune-up.

The last three wins have all been 7-0 mercy-rule blowouts.

The Missy Gators will have a tough task in the postseason, however, as they travel to face two-time defending MHSAA Class 6A champion Saltillo (18-1-1) in the first round Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Saltillo has eliminated Vicksburg from the playoffs each of the past three seasons.

The Vicksburg Gators finished their boys’ soccer season with a hard-fought loss to Forest Hill.

Cannon Jackson scored the only goal for the Gators (1-16-3). Keepers Xavier Williams and Arthur Davis had five saves each, and Johnathan Qualls had two.

Two of Vicksburg’s last three losses were by one goal, and Thursday’s was by two.

“I’m extremely proud of where the boys are at this point. We’ve made tremendous progress over the last two years, and I’m looking forward to an exciting season next year,” Gilliam said.
