Kasman Massey joined the race for mayor of Vicksburg last week, officially turning in her paperwork to qualify for the municipal election Thursday at city hall.

Massey joins incumbent George Flaggs Jr. and challenger and former Vicksburg alderman Willis Thompson in officially declaring for the race. While the deadline to qualify has passed, officials with the Vicksburg City Clerk’s office said an official list of all candidates running for office in the June 3 election will be released later this week.

While Massey has not yet responded to requests for information from The Post, she posted about her background on social media prior to turning in her qualifying paperwork.

“I’m a mother, small business owner and lifelong resident of our beloved Vicksburg,” Massey wrote on Facebook. “I have spent nearly the last 20 years working to restore the blight in our community. I have a background in construction and real estate and (am) ready to put my talents to work for us all. We have all the resources to be a thriving community – let’s make some big changes around here so we all benefit and can be proud to call Vicksburg home.”
